“ Looking after the Shop “

“Looking after the shop...”

Enjoyed the chance to reminisce!

Listening to vinyl is comforting bliss,

starting with Dexys on the turntable,

on the ubiquitous Fame record label.

Then lined up the stylus for Parker’s Rumour,

with his knowing and insightful humour.

Shared a joke with affable Gary,

who was in no particular hurry.

We talked about time moving on -

can we still laugh at Carry On?

All the while reading about Goth folk-lore

In a far reaching article in Vive le Rock

With plenty of reference points galore,

thus educating those who dare to mock.

And the lorries, vans and cars clog up the Cross,

For town planners must be at a genuine loss?

The impatient car horns punctuated the day,

while we just looked for another album to play...

We turned up the volume for Slade in Flame,

charting a journey in the music game.

Had heads nodding along to the five live Yardbirds,

for their driving rhythm there are no words.

Enjoyed the animated conversations,

with all the loaded connotations,

...and Wham sidekick’s shame,

was a result of drunken blame.

Sold more tickets for the Watson Hall:

“Experience Devout, come one and all!”

With over two and a half hours on stage

The live performance will show your age

as your back, hips and knees rage, rage *

...amongst the pulsating lights!

Marvelous Marvin’s literary Smugglers

*with a nod to “Do not go gentle...” by Dylan Thomas
